The Smugglers Way
Exhibition starts in April at Mid Cornwall Galleries
For my first project of 2014 I am going to walk one of the oldest routes the smugglers used from
Boscastle to Looe I will sketch along the way compiling ideas for larger paintings and then returning
to particular places to paint and draw.
Once arriving at Looe I will then continue down the coast visiting small coves and habours that were
used widely by the smugglers eg Prussia Cove which the famous Carter Brothers used.
I love the idea of combining the history of Cornwall with my paintings, for me it gives an added quality
to my work and as an artist I feel I become a story teller through my paintings.
I am really looking forward to starting this whole process of walking and painting this historic county.
Project 2: River to Sea
Exhibition starts in Sept at Beside the Wave
This time I will be tracing the journey of the river at St Clememts near Truro through some of the most
beautiful areas in Cornwall.
I will study the river through the seasons, with it's changing light and mood and views through the trees to
the banks opposite.
From the river you can see Truro Cathedral where I will spend time painting it and may even venture to paint
the interior view of this amazing building.
The journey of the river visits Trelissick and into the Carrick Roads,Mylor,St Just ,St Mawes,Falmouth and then
out into Falmouth Bay and the horizon!
Project 3: Venice and London
A spring visit to Venice and London is planned for me this year where I will be spending time painting and
drawing these two amazing cities.I really want to study their architecture a challenge for me is interpret
their beauty in my own style. Some larger paintings of the interior of the churches are planned and all the
work I do for this project will be on show at my September show at Beside the Wave and with Mid Cornwall
Galleries at the Affordable Art Fair London in Oct 2014
For each exhibition I will once again produce at least a couple of sketch books as they are invaluable in the whole process of my painting. They are a way of storing information, emotions and thoughts and are often as important to me as the final pieces. I also will be producing some larger canvasses which will be worked on through the year and
as I imagine will change and develop a process that I very much enjoy.
